Brooklyn native Eluriel Barfield, a musical child prodigy, grew up in the Red Hook Housing Development where he began playing bass at age 8 and impressed area professionals with his prowess. By 13, he was performing with such local groups as the "Soul Heat Band," and "The Winners." At 18, he met Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, and his collaboration with them continues to this day.
In addition to musicians like Luther Vandross, Lou Rawls, Ray Chew and Robbie Robertson, Tinker has recorded with a number of other artists representing a range of music genres, including Sylvester, Martha and the Muffins, The B-52's, Jaheim, Roberta Flack and Angie Bofill. In cabaret, he worked with Bill Cosby and Sheryl Lee Ralph, in addition to the previously mentioned Phylicia Rashad and Lillias White. His music work for stage productions, includes holding the bass chair in New York and LA companies of the original production of Dream Girls. His performances on commercials and movie scores, includes the theme for the theatrical release, "48 Hours." Tinker also studied under the great Earl Coleman, and was an NYFA grant recipient (artist-in-residence) at El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice.
